Sunday Morning…..

Going a little rogue here this morning with an extra post on ADTA Greenbrier.  In yesterday’s mail, I received two CD’s from the Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys, “Live at Midnight” and “1968-1973”, which I promptly added to my ITunes collection (Since I am up over 30,000 songs, let’s keep this between us chickens, OK?).  I listened to the Boys all evening and they are just fantastic.  Wanting to share the Boys with the ADTA nation, I found AlleghenyMountain Radio, where you can listen to “Live at Midnight.”

This started a cascade of thinking about my ADTA friends coming to West Virginia.  If you are driving south on I-77 (to connect with I-64 East and head to White Sulphur Springs) you’ll hit Beckley around an hour from Charleston.  Just north of Beckley is Tamarack, “The Best of West Virginia.”  You can get off, get some gas and see products made by some of West Virginia’s finest artists, sculptors and artisans.  The food at Tamarack is great, so if you are hungry, you are in for a treat.  You can also buy music from local groups, including the Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys, here.  Slide it into the CD player and the hour or so to the Greenbrier will fly by.

If you are old school, and want to get off the Interstate system, Route 60 East out of Charleston will take you on a slightly longer but more scenic trip which follows the Midland Trail along the Kanawha River to Gauley Bridge, and across Ansted Mountain.  You’ll hit I-64 East at Sam Black Church.  Along the way, you might stop at the MysteryHole, where you can see the laws of gravity defied.  Really.

This morning’s paper featured an article celebrating 30 years of Mountain Stage, a radio program featuring an eclectic blend of music from bluegrass to folk to Americana.  If your travels home from the ADTA meeting take you through Morgantown, West Virginia, on I-79, you can stop and see Mountain Stage live, as they have a show scheduled for April 21 at 6:30.  Catch a couple of hours of live music and travel on…
